15: Gardens Bring Us Together

A newly planted garden at Hemingford Community Care Center. A group of volunteers and NSA staff in front of the Community Evergreen House in Gering. Sarah and Hanna in front of the sign for Hoyt Arboretum in Portland. Colorful plants in a yard.

One of the magical things about plants is their ability to bring people together. Whether its the beauty, the connection to nature or the source of food; gardens create common ground between people who may have little else in common. They help us see the world together- something desperately needed right now. These are just a few of the ways we've experienced the gardening pull. We would love to hear your stories!

Today we're also introducing Toby, NSA's new Member and Affiliate Coordinator! We're so excited to have him on staff; he's already planning amazing new ways for our members and arboretums to connect to us and each other and we know there will be more to come.

We're building a greenhouse!!!! This is going to be so exciting for all of NSA's programs but especially Bloom Box. We'll be able to have a permanent home rather than renting space from the research facilities on campus. We hope this means big things for our ability to get native plants to gardeners across the state. If you would like to help support this project you can cast your vote in our staff fundraising competition (remember a vote for Sarah is a vote for Bloom Box! ;-).
