Consulting and Landscape Design

PlantNebraska's sustainable landscape experts can help you transform a landscape into an inviting, vibrant greenspace that supports habitat for pollinators and fosters community engagement and connection. If you care about creating meaningful greenspaces, saving energy, protecting water, providing habitat and showcasing the natural beauty of Nebraska, we might be a good fit for you.

In addition to landscape design and master planning services, PlantNebraska offers data-driven community greening assessments, including surveys, focus groups, stakeholder interviews, and other engagement tools that help communities identify priorities and opportunities. We also provide brochure and educational material design services, as well as grant review and editing support to help organizations communicate effectively and strengthen funding proposals.

Sites that may benefit from our services include parks, schools, college campuses, municipal golf courses, fairgrounds, courthouses, libraries, transportation corridors and other public spaces, as well as non-profit organizations. At this time, we cannot work with private residences.

We offer the following consultation and landscape design options:

Plant Selection and Design
We can develop a planting plan and create a design sketch for your project that showcases the beauty of eco-friendly landscaping while fitting your budget and gardening experience level. We can also help you find native and well-adapted species that can be difficult to locate and assist with layout.

Maintenance Planning and Inventories
We can help you develop an annual and long-term maintenance plan for your landscape, as well as identify and assess existing trees and landscape plantings to inform your management and future planning.

Visioning and Master Planning
Through participatory workshops with your stakeholders, together we can transform your community, campus or corridor into a memorable place. Our collaborative design process leads to inspirational ideas and an illustrative "road map" with which to realize your vision. Planning and visioning work will unfold over multiple sessions and may take up to 6 months to complete, depending on the scope of work.

Community Greening Assessment

The Community Greening Assessment helps communities identify opportunities to strengthen trees, gardens, and public landscapes through a collaborative, data-informed process. Using stakeholder engagement and mixed-method evaluation, we gather insights on community priorities, needs, and experiences with green spaces. The findings are compiled into a customized summary report highlighting themes, opportunities, and recommendations, providing a clear roadmap for next steps.

Customizable Brochures

We will collaborate with you to develop a customizable, print-ready, tri-fold brochure template to help promote your new greenspace. We can also provide editorial support and constructive feedback on both design and messaging to ensure your materials are clear, engaging, and effective.

Grant Application Review

Our application review services are for organizations seeking feedback on project proposals related to community greening, trees, gardens, and public landscapes. We will review your grant narrative and budget and provide recommendations to strengthen your application by improving clarity, alignment, and overall persuasiveness. Our goal is to help you make a stronger case to funders while ensuring your project goals and budget are clearly communicated.

This service does not include grant prospect research, grant writing, or application submission. Also, it cannot be used for grants you intend to submit to PlantNebraska grant programs. Applications remain responsible for identifying funding opportunities, preparing and submitting final applications, and managing any grant awards received.
