Waterwise Webinar
Waterwise Webinar: The next Waterwise Landscapes webinar is scheduled for next Thursday, September 1st at 12 Noon CST. We’ll be discussing ways to make the lawn more sustainable and explore various ways to cover the ground of our homes and communities. Lush lawns are not the best choice as it takes many costly inputs to achieve that lushness, including an inordinate amount of water. Trees and shrubs, groundcovers, landscape plantings, meadows, buffalograss and gardens are good alternatives. That does not mean that lawns are not important or that they should be eliminated. Indeed, lawns are an important part of a functional landscape in our part of the world. It’s their lushness that’s the problem. The easiest thing to do for many lawns is to leave them as they are and just reduce the inputs: less watering, less fertilizer, less pesticides and less mowing. In our opinion we can have attractive lawns and beautiful, functional landscapes and still conserve most of our drinking water for… drinking.
