72: Fall Garden Chores & Manure for Soil

5 gallon buckets of manure

Hanna and Sarah talk about their fall garden plans, cleanup and compost. Dr. Amy Schmidt "The Manure Lady", a livestock bioenvironmental engineer and professor at UNL, joins us for an interview about how manure can be used to improve our garden soil.

A few things we learned:

  • How manure helps build a healthy, living soil,
  • The difference between composted, fresh, and aged compost,
  • If bagged compost manure from the garden center the same as manure straight from a farm,
  • Whether you add manure or not, all soil has the potential to carry pathogens so it's important to wash your produce and your hands.
