How does heat affect plants? How do plants affect temperature?

Summer in the City

Photosynthesis: Mrs. Frizzle says it best

Stomata: any of the minute pores in the epidermis (skin) of the leaf or stem of a plant, forming a slit of variable width which allows movement of gases in and out of the intercellular spaces.

Transpiration: the exhalation of water vapor through the stomata.

Evapotranspiration: the process by which water is transferred from the land to the atmosphere by evaporation from the soil and other surfaces and by transpiration from plants.

Heat index: a measure indicating the level of discomfort the average person is thought to experience as a result of the combined effects of the temperature and humidity of the air.
