Brownbag on the Winter Garden

Thursday, November 1, 2018
12:00 pm1:00 pm
Jane Snyder Trail Center, 228 N 21st St. Lincoln

Garden columnist Jan Riggenbach will offer suggestions for a garden to enjoy through the long winter months. “If we’re going to live in the Midwest where the garden is dormant almost half the time, we should devote more time to choosing plants with the off-season in mind,” she says. After moving from the country to the city, Riggenbach focused on plants with winter presence— evergreens, berried shrubs, grasses, plants with colorful bark, attractive seedheads and perennials that flower in the off-season. Her presentation will offer suggestions and beautiful photos of plants for the winter garden. This all-things-green brownbag is sponsored by Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, Lincoln Parks & Recreation, UNL Institute of Agriculture & Natural Resources and the Lincoln Downtown Association.

Young Memorial Lecture- Heather Holm

“Forget TV... the real entertainment is in your garden”
One of the pleasures of having a garden is watching its visitors. Heather Holm, author of Pollinators of Native Plants, has tips for “pollinator watchers.” She showcases different types of insect pollinators, their foraging behavior, the tricks flowers use to attract them, and ideas for using technology to document what you see and contribute to broader environmental efforts.

Join us for a sit-down meal while Heather Holm speaks. Doors open at 6:30, dinner will be served at 7, cookies and conversation with the author to follow. Dinner and parking are included in the price of the ticket and Heather's books will be available for purchase. View parking map here: https://plantnebraska.org/connect/events/young-lecture.html

*Vegetarian, dairy free and gluten free meals available upon request.
